Update for Poetry for Poets Book Club

Hi!

This month we are starting The Poems of Octavio Paz in our Fable Book Club. It’s on the longer side for collections, which I’m pretty excited about. In April, we had read The River in the Belly, which was a fascinating collection by Fiston Mwanza Mujila. Every poem is titled “Solitude” and given a number and many of the poems really do revolve around the relationship the poet has to the Congo River. It makes for some truly interesting poems and an insight into life in the DRC. I didn’t connect with all of the poems, but when I did, I DID.

Before that, we were reading Madwomen, which is a favorite collection. I was excited to see it chosen. I also ordered a physical copy from my local indie bookshop. It wasn’t going to come in on time to read it for club, so I ended up rereading it on Scribd again, but I’m excited to have a shelf trophy for it. Mistral’s take on Cassandra and Clytemnestra have lived with me for a while. It’s just gorgeous.

Now Octavio Paz!

If you’re interested in reading along with us, the book is available on the Fable app, Thriftbooks and Alibris. I looked around some other places, but it’s on backorder or unavailable. Join the Poetry for Poets Book Club here!
