There’s something about spring in Louisiana. I love looking at all the plants for sale, seeing my little seedlings grow, watching my perennials come back to life. I know a bunch of that happens during Spring everywhere, but I also know that it’s still cold and dreary in a lot of other places right now. We’ve had warmth and some chill, but also pouring rain and drizzle, and sunshine, and cloud cover. So much sunshine.
So many little plants coming back to life that I wasn’t sure ever would and lots of little volunteers. I have five tomato plants just growing out of the soil of last year’s tomatoes. It makes sense, how that works, but it also is it’s own little miracle. We’ve got a new spot picked out for them this year and plenty of little friends to plant with them to help keep th bugs off. I know everyone has to eat, but nature has to share too. Getting tomatoes was less of a problem that getting zucchini, which was dug up by some animal at night who ate the roots, or blackberries which were always taken by the birds or something right as they were getting ripe. Then there were the plants that never flowered or fruited, like my lemons, tangerines, watermelons, lavendar and grapes. The tangerine is dead, as is the watermelon and lavendar, but the lemon and grapes look hopeful.
I’m trying lavendar inside the house rather than out this year. We’ll see if a more consistent temperature doesn’t help along with not being trampled by my dogs. I love them, but I definitely put that plant right where they wanna walk all the time without realizing it.
Nevertheless, it’s that time to start anew and try again to be one with nature and all that. That also means it’s time to look at my plant and witch books and start planning for the best care of everything and making the most out of what is yielded, which also includes not taking everything that grows…. which brings back around the idea of the difference between enough and greed, but that’s a thought for another day.
Is anyone else feeling the spring?
